Its mission is to improve the quality of human life, enhance self-reliance and concern for others and help people to avoid, prepare for and cope with emergencies. The Greater New York Chapter responds to an average of 8-10 disasters a day throughout the city's five boroughs. What the Red Cross provides is immediate support and comfort to disaster victims. The organization and its volunteers consistently delivers on a genuine and invaluable promise: they offer a connection for people at their moment of greatest vulnerability.
